We shall fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity or locate anyone posting any material in breach of this section.

Client Acceptance & Retention Policy

Under some circumstances, BeLoveCurious or an individual therapist may wish to withdraw the service offered. Where this is in response to any risks considered sufficient to warrant withdrawing said services from a client(s); whether the work is prospective (not yet started) or ongoing (any way through the paid-for six sessions), the assessment of risk and decision to withdraw will be determined solely by BeLoveCurious.

As there may be many differing factors leading to grounds for this assessment, and different levels of risk tolerance, it is not viable to set out all such circumstances in advance. However, some circumstances are non-negotiable and will automatically and immediately lead to a withdrawal of the offer of service – if a client is under the minimum age we prescribe of 18 years old; if a client is found to be recording the session; if a client is clearly intoxicated by drugs or alcohol; if a client uses violent or abusive or threatening language or behaviour whilst on the call or in any correspondence; if a client is the subject of an ongoing police investigation or court case; or there is domestic violence or other serious risk to harm.

Depending on the reasons for withdrawal of the service, clients may lose the right to a refund of the balance of the remaining sessions. Any session terminated by the therapist at the start of the session will, as a minimum forfeit the session fee for that occasion. Abandonment of sessions due to threatening language or abusive behaviour towards the therapist will forfeit the full outstanding balance of pre-paid sessions.

Age

Our online services are only available to those aged 18 years and over.

Domestic Violence

Violence and abuse is an issue for many people in relationships. BeLoveCurious does not work with couples in these circumstances.

We know from our experience that working with couples or family members in this situation together may not be safe. If it becomes apparent during any session with you that this is the case, the BeLoveCurious therapist will terminate the agreement to work with you and will recommend that each person seek individual specialist support from another agency.

Our Privacy

Mobile phones

Please switch off your mobile phone during your counselling sessions as it can create an unhelpful distraction and interruption.

Unauthorised electronic recording

In order for you to work safely and effectively with a counsellor, it is important that the privacy of the work is respected. Please do not attempt to record your counselling session using any device or app. If it is found that recordings have been made covertly, counselling services for the individual responsible will be discontinued immediately and BeLoveCurious reserves the right to seek legal advice regarding possible further action.

Authorised electronic recording

If your counsellors wishes to make an audio or video recording of their work with you, in these circumstances you will be asked to give your written consent for this to happen. The consent will specify all the ways in which the recording will be used (for example training, supervision or research) and will specify how and when the recording will be destroyed.

Reports and client records

Please do not ask us to write reports on the progress made in counselling for any external agency such as Social Services as we will refuse this. We are not in a position to do this because of our duty of confidentiality to all our clients and because BeLoveCurious counsellors are not trained in the specialist areas of diagnosis or social work assessment.

In addition, if we are asked by clients, their solicitors, the police and the courts for access to the client records, BeLoveCurious will refuse. Further, we reserve the right to resist legal requests to produce the records in court as we do not believe they are suitable as evidence in legal proceedings given their function as an aide memoire for the therapist’s individual use and do not therefore constitute a full or a necessarily balanced account of proceedings.

We do this in order to protect BeLoveCurious’s duty of confidentiality to all its clients and to preserve its reputation as a provider of confidential counselling for individuals and couples seeking support in their relationship.

Codes of ethics and practice

The primary professional body for Relationship Counselling is the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. All BeLoveCurious therapists are registered members of the BACP and are required to comply with it’s code of ethics and practice as set out in the Ethical Framework for Good Practice, as appropriate to the work they undertake.

In addition, BeLoveCurious personnel must comply with BeLoveCurious’s practice policies and guidance which both complement the external codes and set specific organisational standards for ethical working. Find out more at the BACP website.

All our therapists are in ongoing professional clinical supervision for the work they undertake and stay up to date professional developments & ethical issues via their own Continuous Professional Development.

Confidentiality – summary

BeLoveCurious relationship counselling is a private and confidential form of help. We hold information about each of our clients and the counselling they receive in confidence. This means that we will not normally give your name or any information about you to anyone outside the organisation. However, there are exceptional cases where BeLoveCurious might ethically or legally have to give information to relevant authorities, for example, if we had reason to believe that someone, especially a child, is at serious risk of harm or to prevent a miscarriage of justice. We will discuss any proposed disclosure with you unless we believe that to do so could increase the level of risk to you or to someone else.

If you use our service with a partner or member of your family, the counsellor may suggest seeing each of you individually. It is important for you to know that what is said in those individual sessions will be confidential and not shared with your partner or family. Read More on the Privacy & Data Protection page

Data Protection – summary

BeLoveCurious keeps confidential records and statistics about its clients. All records are kept securely and are only seen by authorised BeLoveCurious personnel. These records are subject to the General Data Protection Regulation May 2018. Some of the information we may collect is classified as sensitive personal data and we can only use such data where we have your explicit consent. This data may include racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, physical or mental health, sexual life, criminal proceedings and offences. Your personal and sensitive personal data will only be used in order to provide the service to you and for managing and quality assuring the service. Records are kept for up to a period of 7 years and are then destroyed.

BeLoveCurious recognises that on occasion, our clients may wish to exercise their rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (May 2018) and make a subject access request in respect of their personal information held by BeLoveCurious. Often during counselling, information is provided by more than one individual. In these cases, BeLoveCurious will only release information if consent has been given by all of the individuals involved.

If you wish to make a subject access request, please read the Privacy Policy section ‘Your rights and managing your own data’ for full details on how to do this.

The information about confidentiality in no way contravenes your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation May 2018 to access personal data that BeLoveCurious holds on you. Read More on the Privacy & Data Protection page

Cancellation Policy

If you intend to cancel, at least 24 hours’ notice should be given to avoid forfeit of a pre-paid session.
